Susan J. Haney has served the Austin community with an unparalleled passion and dedication to her clients for over 30 years. With a broad range of experience, Susan can provide full service to her clients to handle their legal needs. She focuses her legal practice on fiduciary litigation, estate planning, probate, and business litigation. Her clients have come to know her for her dogged pursuit of their best interests, whether through mediation or litigation. Susan is licensed in the State of Texas, the United States District Court for the Western District of Texas, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth District.
Susan graduated from the University of Texas School of Law in Austin cum laude in 1987. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Government magna cum laude from the University of Texas at Austin in 1977. Susan opened her own law firm in 2000.
In 2020, Austin Monthly Magazine named Susan as a top attorney in Austin for wills and estate planning. Susan has also worked extensively with the Austin affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI). She served on the Board of Directors from 2011 to 2016 and is a facilitator for NAMI’s signature Family-to-Family class which provides education and resources for family members of persons living with severe mental health disorders. She also served as a past driver for Mobile Loaves and Fishes and currently delivers meals once a week for Meals on Wheels. She also volunteers for the CANLAW clinic providing pro bono services to cancer survivors and their caretakers.
Susan’s family is the accomplishment of which she is most proud. Her daughters, Amber and Caitlin, work with her, and her son Benjamin is a coach/teacher/principal in the Clear Springs ISD in League City, Texas. Susan is an avid scuba diver, world traveler, amateur photographer and community activist.
